Calming the Storm

I approached this day this year with thought of my mom and that if we could provide distraction, maybe it would be an easier day for her. No thoughts of anything else, merely that. You see, four years ago she lost her youngest child, her son, to tragedy. The storm has raged ever since. I understand, storms do that. Then, yesterday I remembered. I was doing just fine without remembering, but once in the vehicle traveling in the wind and snow yesterday, it triggered that memory. This day last year I also went through a storm. I drove home from Rapid with my oldest daughter and one of the youngest in a raging snowstorm. It took us nearly four hours to drive home. I am not certain, however, if the storm raging in the vehicle or the one outside was the stronger. I had just been to my second prenatal appt. attended with both girls, to discover that once again, for the second time in a year, we had no heartbeat, the wind blew, the rain fell and I felt lost and disoriented.

That is not what this blog post is about though. I want to tell you something that I have learned about storms. The most important thing I have learned about them. Jesus calms the storms. He has been doing so ever since the day He calmed the storm that so frightened His disciples on the Sea of Galilee. He has done it for me, repeatedly these past four years. He can for you if you simply cry out and seek Him in it. The timing is always different, the means by which He does so may vary, but He will, He does. That is not to say either, that you won't remember, or that the wind may not just pick up and the rain fall again, but always, He calms the storm and will give you a place of refuge.

  1. He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust." For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His pinions and under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark. ~Psalm 91:1-4
